Reuters quoted sources as saying that Southwest Airlines has once again cut its forecast for Boeing’s new aircraft deliveries this year, expecting it to be more than half lower than the forecast last month.
According to the report, Southwest Airlines’ latest estimate is that Boeing can only deliver about 20 new aircraft this year, less than half of the revised delivery forecast of 46 aircraft in March. The company initially estimated that Boeing would deliver 85 aircraft this year, but due to the incident of the Boeing cabin door flying off, it has twice reduced its forecast for Boeing’s delivery volume this year.
In the first quarter of this year, the company only received the delivery of 5 Boeing aircraft, a significant reduction from 29 in the same period last year. Southwest Airlines responded to inquiries by saying that in the case that Boeing continues to adjust the schedule for delivering aircraft, it will maintain close contact with it.
The company has earlier stated that in response to the shortage of new aircraft, the growth in passenger carrying capacity this year will face great variability. Boeing has not responded to inquiries.
